FAQ's
XLMOTO Motorcycle Goggles: High Spec Eye Protection
Does a full-face helmet and visor leave you feeling closed in and affect your riding experience? Or does your open-face helmet's shield offer little eye protection? If so, you need motorcycle goggles. Here, you'll find the perfect pair amongst XLMOTO's extensive range. Eye protection is a must-have regardless of the weather conditions or the type of motorcycle you ride. You may feel safe behind a Perspex screen but all it takes is a crosswind and airborne debris will find its way into your eyes.
As most motorcycle helmets feature some form of a drop-down visor, eye protection shouldn't be a problem. Not all riders are comfortable, though, with a visor. On a full-face helmet, a visor can feel claustrophobic. Furthermore, if the visor on an open-face helmet isn't deep enough, it promotes rather than prevents wind turbulence on the face. The solution is simple, motorbike goggles. Motorcycle or MX goggles fit close to the face and prevent the feeling of riding in a bubble. Yet there are many other features. Motorcycle goggles have many positive points including the following:
Lenses
Manufacturers invest a great deal of research and development into bike goggle lenses. Lenses are a polycarbonate-based material. This thermoplastic polymer allows the lens to be optically clear, flexible enough to curve around the face and shatterproof. In addition, it's possible to coat this lens type in various finishes to provide anti-scratch and anti-fogging properties. Most lenses feature a quick-release system to make lens changing quick and easy. This feature is excellent news, as motorcycle goggles are available with a huge range of coloured lenses for varying light conditions.
Lens colour options
Looking through the XLMOTO range, you will come across many coloured lenses. Each type helps filter out various colours to improve visibility in various light conditions.
Red: Cloudy, shifting to sunny
Blue: Low to medium light
Smoke: Medium to bright light
Yellow: Flat to low light
Orange: Flat or weak cloud
Black: Bright sunshine
You will also see many coloured lenses have a mirror finish. Mirror lenses reduce the glare from some harmful light wavelengths. They optimise usable light and better yet, look sharp.
What's the difference between UVA and UVB?
For most bike goggle specs, you'll see a series of abbreviations but what do they mean?
UV- Ultraviolet light is low-level electromagnetic radiation that is invisible to the naked eye. This radiation is present in sunlight. The letters A and B represent different types of radiation.
UVA has a long wavelength and is responsible for skin aging. In comparison, UVB has a short wavelength and is responsible for tanning the skin. Both types of rays can harm the eyes. So always choose good quality motorcycle goggles that offer protection from both wavelengths.
Frame: After the lens, the goggles' frame is of prime importance. The frame should be lightweight and flexible enough to follow the contours of the face. A well-made frame distributes weight and pressure across the face evenly
The frame will have two or three foam layers around the edge to ensure a good, windproof seal around the eyes. A strap attaches to the frame. Finding a pair of motorcycle goggles with a silicone band around the inside of the strap will help keep them in place on your helmet.
