Keep your Hands Safe and Clean with XLMOTO Motorcycle Workwear Gloves
Once, carrying out work on a motorcycle wearing gloves was unheard of, but today health and safety in the workshop are a top priority. There are two excellent reasons for wearing motorcycle mechanic gloves.
Cut and abrasion protection
If you've ever had to undo a stubborn bolt with an oily spanner in a tight space, you will be all too familiar with grazed knuckles. The same applies when investigating a problem behind a bracket or underneath the engine. It's here where sharp objects await unprotected hands.
Risk of infection
While a minor cut or scrape may not seem a big deal, it can cause significant problems. If dirty oil or grease gets into an open wound, even a small one, it may lead to infection. Even when cut-free, extended or frequent exposure to oil and grease may result in skin complaints such as dermatitis. Motorcycle mechanic gloves are the simple solution. To help you decide which gloves suit you, check out this rundown of the different types.
Motorcycle mechanic gloves
Combining a flexible inner glove and protective outer coating makes motorcycle mechanic gloves ideal for general engine and maintenance work. The polyester inner glove offers a high degree of flexibility to give unrestricted finger movement. Meanwhile, the elasticated wrist section ensures a close fit to prevent snagging. A protective layer of polyurethane coats the entire front of the glove to the lower palm and wraps around the edges of each finger for maximum protection. The polyurethane coating is strong enough to resist cuts and abrasion yet fine enough to allow maximum dexterity. It is also resistant to oil-based lubricants. Also, these types of gloves are EN388-2016 certified. This certification means they comply with European cut, tear and puncture resistance standards. They are available as single pairs or multi-packs.
Nitrile gloves
Black nitrile gloves offer excellent tactile feedback and a high level of protection. Both factors make them perfect for intricate mechanical jobs. Moreover, they are also strong enough for everyday use. Nitrile is a synthetic rubber that is stronger than latex. It offers an extremely low allergy rate, so nitrile work gloves are ideal for anyone with a rubber allergy. Although not as puncture and tear-proof as motorcycle mechanic gloves, nitrile gloves compensate by offering high degrees of elasticity. In addition, they are resistant to oil, grease, gasoline and many other chemicals. The gloves have a structured surface finish for added grip and feedback and available in packs of 100.
Disposable gloves
These gloves are synthetic polymer (PVC). While not as robust as motorcycle mechanic gloves or as stretchy as nitrile, disposable work gloves are resistant to oil, grease, and acid. These gloves are intended for a single use before disposal. Their lack of elasticity and textured finish makes them unsuitable for stripping down an engine. However, they are ideal for many other motorcycle-related duties.
Disposable gloves take up little space and stowing them under a motorcycle seat is easy. In this case, including them as part of a roadside repair kit is a good idea. So in the event of a flat tyre or roadside repair, you can avoid returning greasy or grimy hands to your riding gloves. Whether stripping an engine or fixing a flat, XLMOTO work gloves will keep your hands clean and safe.
