Fire on all Cylinders with XLMOTO Motorcycle Spark Plugs and Caps
A motorcycle spark plug fits inside a threaded hole in the top or side of the combustion chamber. Inside the combustion chamber, set amounts of fuel and air combine. It is the motorcycle spark plug that sets it alight. The explosion forces the piston down the bore and turns the crankshaft. This action rotates the gearbox sprocket and moves the motorcycle forward. This motion starts with a simple spark, so choosing the correct spark plug type is essential. Whether you ride a dirt bike or a 6-cylinder tourer, XLMOTO offers the correct spark plug(s). You can easily find the right one using the bike finder drop-down menu.
XLMOTO prides itself on offering top-quality, excellent-value motorcycle accessories and the XLMOTO range of spark plugs is no exception. Here is a rundown of the different motorcycle spark plug types available.
Standard
This type of spark plug is an original equipment part for almost every type of motorcycle. Standard plugs are often referred to as 'copper' plugs. The copper core electrodes in these plugs are 98% pure. Meanwhile, the outer electrode is a nickel alloy. For the top half of the spark plug, you'll find high-grade alumina ceramic for stronger insulation. Cold-rolled threads prevent cross-threading. These excellent value, base-level spark plugs aren't as hard-wearing as other variants. However, you will still enjoy a lifespan of around 20,000 miles before they need changing.
Iridium
When looking for a top-performing motorcycle spark plug that goes above and beyond, it's time to trade up with iridium plugs. These plugs feature an iridium central electrode with a very high melting point. This feature allows for complete combustion, which in turn aids performance. These spark plugs share the same physical characteristics as the standard plugs due to the alumina ceramic housing. Yet, iridium has one significant benefit and that is longevity.
The plug's iridium tip is a mere 0.6-mm in diameter. This design allows for a greater area of flame expansion thanks to the durability and consistency of the spark. Iridium spark plugs are perfect for high-performance engines. The high melting point also burns off carbon deposits. An iridium spark plug will last twice as long as the standard version.
Laser iridium
Laser Iridium motorcycle spark plugs are a game changer. They have the smallest diameter centre electrode possible to give maximum sparkability. Add this to the platinum outer electrode and you have a combination of a stable and substantial spark with superior anti-fouling properties. These top-of-the-line motorcycle spark plugs are also the most expensive. The technology sounds great on paper but what does this mean for your motorcycle?
If you fit these motorcycle spark plugs, your engine will start easier, use less fuel, accelerate faster and smoother, plus lower emissions. All these features are possible because the fuel and air ignite in the most effective way possible. You can also expect between 80,000-100,000 miles between spark plug changes!
Supporting role
Motorcycle spark plugs play a vital role in the combustion process. Yet, don't forget the supporting role played by the motorcycle spark plug cap and the HT leads or ignition cables. These components will also, over time, wear out. In this case, you will find replacement spark plug caps and leads in this section.
Regardless of which motorcycle spark plugs or accessories you choose from the XLMOTO lineup, there's no wrong answer; they're all winners.
When making your choice remember spark plugs are make/model and year specific, so use the drop-down menu in the product description to ensure the correct fit.
