Get the Wheel Deal with a 24MX Wheel Set
A wheel set is a pair of matched front and rear wheels. Supplied by specialist motocross wheel builders, the purpose of wheel sets is to replace the original factory wheels.
Why buy wheels as a set?
Whether you’re replacing, upgrading, or customising, buying front and rear wheels at the same time has several advantages. Firstly, buying a wheel set means purchasing both wheels from the same manufacturer. Therefore, the manufacturing and assembly process will be of the same high standard for each wheel.
The component wheel parts, such as the rims, hubs, and spokes, will be machined or manufactured from an identical material. This feature ensures conformity and guarantees quality.
In addition, replacing both wheels at the same time makes it easier to gauge their shelf life and component parts, such as wheel bearings, for servicing needs.
Finally, ordering a wheel set means that the front and rear will be cosmetically identical. This feature is essential when choosing anodised hubs in a specific colour.
What materials are suitable for aftermarket wheel sets?
Rims – The outer hoops in aftermarket wheel sets are aluminium or an aluminium blend. This material is lightweight, reduces the amount of un-sprung weight, and aids faster steering. Aluminium is also strong, has a degree of natural flexibility, and is corrosion-resistant.
Hubs – Located in the centre of the wheel, hubs are machined from billet aluminium. This grade of aluminium is aerospace industry standard, which is incredibly hardwearing and stress-resistant. It also takes well to anodisation, giving an excellent and durable finish.
Spokes – For maximum strength, spokes are stainless steel. This type of alloy is extremely strong and is 200 times more corrosion resistant than mild steel.
Who needs a wheel set?
Motocross – Competitive motocross riding or even enthusiastic off-roading puts wheels under tremendous stress. Over time, rims become misshapen, and spokes can stretch or break. Aftermarket wheel sets are stronger than original equipment manufacturer gear (OEM), so they are a great replacement option.
Supermoto – Supermoto bikes rely on fast steering and surefooted handling. A new wheel set provides a performance upgrade for less un-sprung weight for improved steering.
Conversions – With excellent ground clearance and engines tuned for low-end torque, off-road bikes make excellent supermoto conversions. Aftermarket wheels allow you to retain your stock brake and disc set-up and add some sticky road rubber.
A new wheel set is not only a performance upgrade but also with rims and hubs available in a choice of colours that can jazz up your ride. So roll on over to 24MX and wheel away your new hoops.
