Greases & Lubricants
Motocross Lubricants to protect your bikes moving parts
Off-road bikes have hundreds of moving parts. Each part produces friction and the components that don't move also need protection from dirt and crud. 24MX has a wide selection of grease and motocross lubricants to ensure your bike's parts move in the right direction. You could argue that any lube is better than none. In real terms, though, friction often generates heat. Also, as moving parts can be made from various materials, using the proper grease or lubricant is essential.
Varying types of motocross lubricants have different properties. For instance, motorbike chain lubricant should be thin enough for ease of transfer yet have a high cling rate. These features make chain lube easy to spray yet sticky enough to resist being flung off while riding. The same need for specific properties also relates to silicone-based lubricants. These products provide a water-repellent coating. Yet, they are not sticky enough to attract dirt and other contaminants.
Motocross Lubricant: Types and Uses
Chain lube: Chain lube is a motorcyclist's on and off-road favourite. Drive chains consist of 100s of individual components. For them to all work properly together, the chain needs regular lubrication. The same goes for sealed (0, X and W ring) chains.
Motorbike chain lubricant is fine enough to spray onto the chain, then expand and cling to the rollers and plates. It’s a fact that chain lube extends your bike's chain life. The 24MX range features small canisters of lubricant. These are ideal for stashing under the seat or in a tool roll. Plus, you will also find coloured chain lube to match your paintwork.
Cable lube: It's easy to overlook clutch and throttle cable lubrication. However, it is well worth the effort to minimise the friction between the wire cable and its outer cover. Most cable lubricants are Polytetrafluoroethylene based (PTFE). PTFE is protective and has an impressive low friction coefficient. What does this mean, though? The easier the cable moves, the longer it will last. In addition, there's a reduced risk of arm pump.
Seal grease: Although this lubricant has many uses, its primary role is to ensure an airtight fit. An air filter on a dirt bike should prevent dust, sand and more from getting into the inlet manifold. Seal grease applied around the outside will close the gap around the filter.
Silicone spray: This type of lubricant is an all-around product with many uses. Silicone forms a protective layer that repels moisture. It lubricates without attracting dirt and dust. This product is suitable for use on moving parts, as well as protecting paintwork and body panels.
General/bearing grease: This must-have product is suitable for toolboxes, workshops, and more. General grease is thick and gloopy. It is ideal for lubricating wheel spindles, steering head bearings and swingarm bushes.
Lip balm: Not all greases and lubricants are for dirt bike use. Motocross helmets leave the lower half of the face open to the elements, blasting the lips with the wind. Meanwhile, the lips may dry out, crack or blister in hot or sunny conditions. So, keep a lip balm in your pocket to ensure it's not just your bike that stays well lubricated!
Moving parts in harsh, abrasive conditions leads to rapid wear or component failure. Keep friction to a minimum and protect your dirt bike from the elements with 24MX’s range of motocross lubricants.
