FAQ
24MX – Motorcycle Jeans
Motorcycle jeans can offer the same protection as leather motorcycle suits. However, there are multiple reasons why motorcyclist choose jeans over a leather clothing. Let’s look at the most important advantages and disadvantages of motorcycle jeans. Besides that, we will also look at the different motorcycle jeans available and the protection that it provides to riders.
Why motorcycle jeans?
Most riders choose bike jeans as it better fits their style on the motorcycle, without it being less protective. We see that more and more youngsters are choosing this type of protection, but also that older people driving café racers choose this type of motorcycle jeans. It fits the complete style of the motorcycle.
Besides that, it allows them to wear the motorcycle jeans without having to undress and redress again. This is a negative side that leather motorcycle clothing has. But while wearing a motorcycle jean can look better, does it also provide the needed protection?
Types of motorcycle jeans
There are different types of motorbike jeans available. Below, we’ve listed the different kinds of jeans available, sorted from the least protection to the most protection.
Motorcycle jeans made of denim with a wear-resistant aramid fabric on the inside. The most known name for this is Kevlar, where the Kevlar is placed on the impact points of the motorcycle jeans, such as the knees and hips.
Motorcycle jeans where the denim is interwoven with an aramid fibre. This means the fibres are alternated crosswise with a wear-resistant fibre. These types of motorcycle jeans have the advantage that those are wear resistant from head to toe. However, the impact points do not have extra wear resistant points.
Thirdly, there are motorcycle jeans that use both fabrics mentioned above. The denim fabric is interwoven with a wear-resistant thread and the impact points are provided with a wear-resistant aramid fabric. This one is especially popular with motorcyclist. The jeans themselves are durable and the impact points are extra safe.
The last type of motorcycle jeans is the jeans where the entire denim fabric is interwoven with an aramid fibre. This is the safest motorcycle jeans, as both the outside and the inside provide lots of protection when driving.
Protection of motorcycle jeans
Next to the regular protection of motorcycle jeans, you can also choose to add extra protection by buying special Kevlar pads. Those can be added on the hips and knee to add additional protection. It is important to mention here that the motorcycle jeans need to enable this type of protection. Some jeans have special pockets that can be used to insert the pads on both knees and hips.
