How to Choose the Best Motocross Boots
The good thing about choosing the best motocross boots is that you're not going to have to confront an extensive range of different styles and boot heights. If you thought all MX boots were the same, though, think again. The basics may be similar in height and look but there's a whole world of difference in specifications and materials. Here, we will show you what to look for to ensure you get it right the first time.
The layout of the motorcycle and the nature of the terrain mean that your boots are in for a rough ride. A motocross boot will touch the exhaust, get stomped into the mud, battered by rocks and impaled on serrated footpegs.
Price Point: As everyone's budget is different, there's no point in having Alpinestars Tech 10 aspirations if you've got a Shot X10 budget. Be realistic but spend as much as you can afford. When on a tight budget, the one thing to bear in mind is to make sure you study every word of the description. In doing this, you will get the best bang for your buck when it comes to features. Choosing a reputable seller like 24MX means you'll have many different makes and models to compare at every price point.
Shin Protection: Look for a plastic or TPU insert that runs the shin's height at the front of the boot. This area is a common impact point, so make sure it's well protected.
Ankle Armour: External ankle protectors are of prime importance but make sure that area is also well-padded inside to prevent rubbing. With 14 toe bones on each foot, you also need to check out the toe box.
Sole Considerations: With a row of large teeth, footpegs can wreak havoc underneath motocross boots, so pay close attention to the sole. The outer should be gripable rubber while, the inner should be reinforced, preferably with a steel insert. If possible, look for a boot that can also take a replacement sole.
Spare Parts: On the subject of replacements, if you're still undecided about which make and model to go for, check out the "Motocross Boot Spare Parts" tab. You can refine your search by "Brand" to get a list of accessories for a particular model. Being able to replace soles, buckles, fasteners, protective covers and toe plates mean you can significantly extend your boot's shelf life.
Fit: Last but not least, the correct fit for motocross boots is crucial, especially as everyone's feet are different. Manufacturers cater for different foot shapes, so there will be a degree of trial and error before you find a brand of boot that fits you like a glove.
