Stay Comfortable in the Saddle and Out with 24MX Base Layer Trousers
Base layer trousers are lightweight, stretch fabric garments worn underneath outer clothing to make riding a motorcycle more comfortable. You'll find different lengths, styles, and materials at 24MX, the home of excellent motorcycle gear at fantastic prices.
Why you need base-layer pants
The most common use for base layers is to stay warm on those cold winter rides, but it’s not their only function. For active motorcycle sports like motocross, enduro, and off-road riding, base layers help prevent wear and tear on the legs. This sport style sees the rider in constant motion standing up and down in the saddle and griping the tank. In this case, base layer pants and base layer shorts help prevent the inside of the legs from chaffing.
Yet another use for base layer trousers, albeit one that may seem counterintuitive, is to keep the legs comfortable in warmer weather. Dirt bike riding is strenuous and results in the legs sweating. This situation quickly becomes uncomfortable and left unchecked, can result in body odour and bacteria. 24MX offers an extensive range of quality base layer pants and shorts with antibacterial, breathable material to wick moisture away from the skin, allowing it to evaporate.
Which style to choose
If you prefer the feeling of minimal amounts of protective clothing but still want to protect your assets, then base layer shorts are a great option. The shorts are available in two lengths: trunks or mid-thigh. Both feature breathable and stretchy material to keep you comfortable, whatever the weather.
Three-quarter length base layer pants. Some riders prefer wearing base layers that finish above their boots for added flexibility. If this is you, choose three-quarter base layer pants as they end around the mid-calf.
For waist to ankle coverage, opt for the full-length style of base-layer trousers. This style offers excellent insulation in cold conditions and moisture control in warmer climates. Some full-length base layer pants also feature looser panels at the knee for greater flexibility.
One-piece base layer. This style of onesie or base layer suit is available in either touring mode, which features drop seat access, or as a tight-fitting seamless race-style suit.
Features to look for in base layer trousers
Base layer pants have lots of features, so to make the most of their exceptional temperature-controlling properties, here are a few things to look for.
Stretch material – Most man-made fibres have an in-built stretch element. However, a flexible form-fitting finish is guaranteed when mixed with fibres such as elastane and Spandex.
Flat-lock seams - This feature is essential when choosing close-fitting base layers. Here, the seams are as flat as possible in order not to rub against the legs.
Quick drying material – If you are heading out on a road trip, then being able to wash and dry base layer pants overnight will keep you feeling fresh.
Moisture-wicking material – This feature is an excellent addition to any base layer trousers. Here, the fabric draws sweat away from the skin and allows it to evaporate outside the material. This wicking action keeps your legs feeling comfortable regardless of the temperature.
Antibacterial – Base layers that feature antibacterial fabric will help keep your close-fitting pants or shorts fresher for longer.
Fabrics
For fit and flex, most base-layer pants and shorts are made of man-made fabrics, such as polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene. Natural fibres including merino wool, offer fantastic insulation and breathability. Both natural and man-made materials are often woven together for superior fit and function. Whether you're off-road riding or touring across the country, 24MX's extensive range of base-layer pants will keep you comfortable in the saddle and out.
Tackle the Elements with 24MX Mid Layer Trousers
If you like to mix and match mid-base layers, you’ll find just the mid-layer pants you need from 24MX. When the weather takes a turn for the worse mid-layer trousers are an integral part of any motorcycle safety kit, but wet, cold, or both, 24MX has got you covered.
Cold weather mid-layer pants
When the temperature needle dips, you need mid-layer pants you can trust to keep you warm. Polyester fleece-type materials are excellent for keeping warm while at the same time drawing moisture away from the body. When it gets extra cold, look for mid-layer trousers with an integral top featuring thermal insulation. These overall style mid-layers are often a loose fit with stretch panels for manoeuvrability.
Wet weather mid-layer trousers
Riding in cold conditions is bad enough, but when battling torrential rain, you need the correct kit. If you’re expecting this type of weather, search for mid-layer pants that provide an impregnable membrane beneath the outer layer. Mid-layer trousers that are 100% waterproof also mean they’re windproof. Breathability is the key to a good pair of waterproof mid-layer pants as they will keep out the rain and draw moisture away from the legs. Whatever the weather, tackle the elements confidently, wearing mid-layer trousers from 24MX.
