FAQ's
Whatever the Weather Choose 24MX Motorbike Face Masks and Balaclavas
In the winter of 1854, during the Battle of Balaclava, the weather was so cold the women of Britain knitted wooly hats for the troops to wear under their helmets. Today, thanks to 24MX, bikers battling the elements can rely on a huge range of motorbike balaclavas, neck warmers, and face masks for warmth. Interestingly, balaclavas aren’t all about cold weather protection. They’re also suitable for those sticky summer months, but more on that later. When wearing a motorcycle helmet, it’s a good idea to wear a balaclava, and here are the reasons why:
Ease of use – Balaclavas are often either thin cotton or a polyester mix and conform to the contours of the head. As hair and ears are no longer in the way, putting on and removing a motorcycle helmet is an easy job.
An additional layer of warmth – When riding in the winter, somewhere along the way, your helmet’s visor with steam up. At this point, the face becomes exposed to cold air, which rapidly cools the head. What’s more, if it’s very cold, you may experience a numb nose and lips. Additionally, for some motorcycle helmets, intake vents are not all-closeable. This design means a constant stream of cold air passes over the head. When this happens, a motorcycle balaclava will provide an extra layer of warmth to the head and protect the nose and mouth.
Hygiene – Not all motorcycle helmets feature a removable comfort liner. As the head perspires, it creates bacteria. A breathable balaclava will absorb the sweat and can be washed regularly, keeping your helmet fresh. Additionally, even if your helmet does have a removable liner, it’s far more convenient to wash and dry a balaclava than to remove the helmet’s liner.
Hot weather – The versatile balaclava doesn’t just keep the cold out. Summer weight balaclavas made from breathable material are great at wicking away moisture from the skin and ensuring your head is fresh.
Road trips – A motorcycle balaclava offers an added degree of soundproofing. Also, you can wash and dry a balaclava overnight, making it an ideal piece of road trip gear.
Motorbike neck warmer
If a balaclava isn’t for you, a motorbike neck warmer is a good alternative. Instead of providing full head coverage, a neck warmer covers the neck and lower face. Keeping the neck warm with a motorbike face mask or neck warmer helps in the production of interferon. These proteins are part of your body’s natural defense against colds and flu. If you wear a one-piece leather suit or your motorcycle jacket has a small stand-up collar, neck warmers can bridge the gap between the helmet and jacket. In addition, if your helmet chinstrap is uncomfortable or irritates your skin, a motorbike neck warmer creates a soft layer between the strap and neck. Even though riding in winter is a serious business, why not lighten things up with a printed motorbike face mask? From your favourite brand’s logo to a pair of vampire or shark teeth, they are a great way to brighten up those cold rides.
Styles and lengths – Balaclavas are available in a number of different styles, from single-eye openings to F1-style eyeholes. Neck warmers and balaclavas are also available in a choice of lengths. These styles range from those finishing at the base of the neck to others that extend over the chest and back to provide additional wind protection. The 24MX range of motorbike neck warmers, balaclavas, and motorbike face masks are made from breathable, stretchy, quick-drying materials. When the temperature plummets, you can also wear these items off the bike, making them one of the most flexible head coverings you can buy.
